"Sweeter" is a very creative work and comes with several factors that affect the price it costs to print each copy.

1. Original Art: For one, there are 21 originally commissioned designs within the covers of "Sweeter" along with all-original handwriting. For each poem included, the artistic design underwent a prolonged, thoughtful back-and-forth process of artistic creation and refinement. Each design specifically highlights the emotions and experiences felt within each poem. This process alone costs thousands of dollars in collaborating with a professional artist but sets "Sweeter" apart from all others.

2. Full-Spread Color: Secondly, you might have noticed that most books are printed as black text on white paper which can be done rather affordably but "Sweeter" requires full-color spreads to fully capture the meaning and the story. The base cost per book more than triples when you factor in this change. I wrestled with this for some time but knew there was no way I could publish "Sweeter" in black and white as the designs are integral to the unique work.

3. Print-on-Demand: Books printed in bulk can be distributed for much more cheaply. However, as a small, one-woman start-up, there was no way I could have paid to print and house 10,000+ copies of "Sweeter" without bringing it to market first. With that, "Sweeter" comes to you on a Print-on-Demand basis which makes ordering in bulk from the Blurb Bookstore especially advantageous for stocking the shelves of your bookstore, gift shop, or church with "Sweeter." In the end, I wouldn't trade the original art, the full-color spread designs, or the print-on-demand feature for a cheaply made book on solid white paper with black text.
